The world is alive and dangerous, and your kingdom has to stay alive. Do the Viking raiders take your villagers? If so, are they stopped at the castle gates with their bows drawn, If a dragon burns down your grain store, will your people go hungry this winter, or can you turn the beast around? How well you plan cities and castles is the only thing that will determine how well your kingdom does.

Plan the plan of your town carefully to make your peasants happier and to bring in new people. Just tax them enough to pay for your castle. Make sure your farmers are fed and healthy in the winter. Put up churches to keep them from getting down and bars to keep them from being sad. If you build a town square, you can even hold events! Set up stone mines to build your castles and send out wood cutters to gather wood. Also, farm the land well so your town can grow and thrive.

Vikings might attack the new land you’re moving to. The goal of these raiders is to burn down your town, take your resources, and kidnap and kill your farms. Make strong castles with a method that lets you use blocks that can be put anywhere to build things. Walls and towers are made on the fly based on how you stack and arrange them. The higher an archer tower or other weapon position is, the farther it can be reached. To best protect your country and show off your power as a king or queen, try out different layouts.

All of this happens in a beautiful, changing world with styled procedural clouds and a summer-to-winter cycle. The woods are modeled by an algorithm that makes tree growth look real. Based on your needs, wood cutters can either clear cut your forests or handle them in a responsible way. The first Fig-funded game to come out is Kingdoms and Castles. It raised 725% of its goal through a crowdsourcing effort, which had 1,400 backers. During the Fig campaign, people who liked the game could both pledge and spend.
